Basis: The Login page

Every time that you enter the Stud.IP system, you have to log in once for the current session. To do this, please click on “Login" on the Start page. Subsequently, you see this Login page:

You must enter your username and your password there. Normally, this should cause no problems — however, there are a few error messages which can appear:

The system cannot identify the username that you entered. You have probably only made a typing error. If the error message still occurs despite correction, there is probably a problem with your personal user account. In this case please contact your institution’s administrator.

A password other than the one you just entered is assigned to the username being used. In this case a typing error has probably also occurred. Please ensure that you have written the password just as your wrote it at your initial registration or at a password change. Care must be taken in the use of upper and lower case letters.

The username must also be entered with correct use of upper and lower case letters. If the computer returns this error message, you probably put an upper case letter at the beginning of your username during initial registration. Please ensure that you also enter the username in this form at Login.


To be able to log into the system, cookies have to be activated in your browser. This means that the browser must allow storage of data on your computer during the session. However, in this context, Stud.IP does not store any data on your hard disk, but merely holds a session ID in the browser’s memory. Without this ID the system does not recognise you when you are moving among the individual Stud.IP pages, and you must again identify yourself with username and password before each input into Stud.IP. This session ID is deleted when you log out of Stud.IP, but at the latest when you close your browser. Thus, you do not have to worry about the system threatening the security of your computer by doing this.

If cookies are deactivated in your browser, you will be informed of this when registering or logging in. Please activate cookies in your browser and click on Login again. Now you can register or login without any problems. If you have any problems with this, you can look up how to activate cookies in your browser’s (Internet Explorer, Opera, Lynx, Konqueror …) help system. Due to the many different browser types and versions, we can, unfortunately, not provide instructions for all of them here.
Our experience has shown us that many university computers that use the Linux operating system and Netscape do not allow the use of cookies by default. However, this function can be activated by the user with no problems; because of the frequency of the problem, it will be briefly described here:

Access the Preferences page via Edit and Preferences.

Now select the Advanced menu item on the left side of the Preferences page.

Select Only accept cookies originating from the same server as the page being viewed

Exit the Preferences page by clicking on OK at bottom left.

While you are in the process of changing settings, you can check whether two other settings are correct.

The following menu items on the right side of Netscape's Preferences page must be activated in order for you to be able to use all of Stud.IP’s features comfortably: Enable JavaScript and Enable Style Sheets.
